Gouache Paintings

I go to Claremont Landscape Gardens, a National Trust property in Esher, Surrey, many times a month, sometimes many times a week. I have painted dozens of pictures in all media of the beautiful views here. In the summer of 2006 I discovered some tubes of gouache and started to work on mounting board. This comes in many glorious colours which could form a great background for these paints which are not translucent like watercolours, but opaque. But they are very bright and you can use them quick thick for great effects. I did a series of paintings of Claremont in this medium, plus some of Norfolk also. I hope to return to this later this summer, possibly to paint some of the incredible Tuscan colours I saw in April 2007.
