About Caroline Tate I studied Fine Arts at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, where many of my paintings were of car parts! I started to sell my work then worked in advertising, later moving to Scotland to work in a Recording Studio, getting involved in local music and advertising on buses, tv and radio. Back in London again I had a family, and continued to sell paintings. I did a B.A. Degree in Education and Training and moved into teaching painting to many groups including Housebound Learners, the U3A, a Day centre, Adult Education, plus helping Day Patients at a local Hospice.

Past work includes many paintings of landscapes in Norway, Prague, Italy, and of course many scenes of the UK. I had a year painting Cathedrals, then 'bridges' of London, Prague, and Paris. The emphasis has always been on light, exuberant colour and effects, with texture often playing a part. I love to have several works on the go at once.

Exhibitions have included 2 solo shows at the Barbican Library, solo show of 54 paintings at Guildford Cathedral, the Austrian Cultural Forum London, Christies ‘Art for Life’, the Stanley Picker Gallery, Merriscourt, Lloyds TSB Private Banking Exhibitions, Putney Arts Theatre, Yehudi Menuhin School of Music, Celia Purcell Contemporary, Sandown Park Prom art exhibition, Surrey Artists’ Open Studios, Wine Gallery Chelsea, Fisherton Mill Salisbury, View Gallery Thames Ditton, American Agency Weybridge.

In 2009 I was Artist in Residence at Guildford Cathedral ‘Big Draw’ workshop. I also donated two paintings to a charity ball to raise funds for the Sam Beare Hospice and Walk the Walk. The sale of these paintings raised £1500. I was involved in a number of exhibitions and gave workshops and private lessons.

In 2010 I continue exploring watercolours of local scenes, and will do some of a visit to the Montpellier area of France. I am planning a number of new acrylic and score music paintings to coincide with celebrations of the life of Gustav Mahler: 2010 is 150 years since his birth, and 2011 the centenary of his death. I also continue to paint London views and I continue to sell the prints I have of my small London images painted in 2009. Plus I may experiment with various mixed media images of rocks, bark, shells etc. which I enjoy exploring.

In April 2010 I am involved in a large fund raising Art Reception at Goldsmiths Hall. This is organised by Chase Childre’s Hospice. (www.chasecare.org.uk) A painting I did of Goldsmiths Hall is being auctioned and the image used as the invitation to this event.
